Mentors Needed for New KO Members

Call to Action – All Kappa Omicron members-

We need members that are willing and able to provide a little encouragement to our new members, most of whom are newly graduated nurses. Can you give a few moments to a new graduate, to encourage them and welcome them to the profession of nursing?? We desperately need your help!!

Kappa Omicron's suggestions for you as a mentor are that you:

1.       contact your mentee and welcome them as a new member of Kappa Omicron,

2.      contact your mentee prior to major chapter events during the coming year to extend a personal invitation to participate, and

3.      be available as a personal resource or contact for networking during the coming year.  Many of the mentees are graduating senior nursing students and having a mentor to ask questions might be very helpful in helping them transition to their new roles.

There are so many ways to “contact” someone these days and any method of encouraging these new members of our profession could make a HUGE difference to them! Kappa Omicron is using Facebook as a new tool to schedule events and stay in touch with members and it can be used to stay in touch with a mentee! We have a goal of 20 mentors this year, so please get involved and make a difference!

If you would be interested in serving as a mentor, please RSVP by email or by calling 530-671-5515 or 530-713-2661.  If you know someone that you would like to mentor, please let me know as I will honor requests if possible. If you know anyone else whom might be interested in being a mentor, please let me know so that I may contact them.

Sincerely,

Deborah Clifton, RN MSN CCRN

Share cutting edge research. Stay up to date on Kappa Omicron events. Find out what is happening at Sigma Theta Tau International. Invite your friends; they may decide to become new members to the chapter. Thank you to Debbie Clifton for setting it up. Be sure to visit the site at “Chico Kappa Omicron” and become a friend.
