Spring Fundraising Campaign Launched- (successfully completed, see update below!)- Message from Kappa Omicron President, Janelle GardnerWe are raising money for the operating expenses of the Community Outreach Children’s Center. The Children’s Center is a facility in the rural area of Kenya and offers a number of much needed services to children. The focus is on rehabilitating children suffering from malnutrition, physical neglect, parasitic infection, or recovering from illnesses such as malaria. We are also raising money for mosquito nets to prevent malaria. In Kenya, 98 children die every day from malaria! The malaria carrying mosquito is only active at night, so sleeping under a net is very effective in preventing malaria. A treated net for a young child costs one dollar. As many as 80% of the homes are still without nets in western Kenya. Our goal is to raise $5000.00 for this outstanding organization! (Visit the Community Outreach Center website at www.comoutreach.com) We are raising money by selling raffle tickets. You can win a Fit One Athletic Club family/individual one year membership or a 42 inch flat screen plasma television. The person selling the most raffle tickets and bringing in the most money will receive a $50.00 gift card to the Olive Garden restaurant. We really can make a difference when we all work together!
